Roof on, Malcolm happy...

The roof is now on and the crane is going! Despite the rain and high winds, tha Austrian crew erected the house in a week...

Detail of junction of panels, they fill this in on site, I presume it is left out to avoid damaging the edges of the panels

Detail of the cedar cladding

A pair of Irish navvies...

Upper level of hall before the roof went on

Clerestorey windows before roof installed

The house with roof

The house with roof again, compare to top of blog....

Master bedroom window (we probably need blinds or non see-through pyjamas...)

View along top corridor from master bedroom, you can see the slot void to the kitchen on bottom right, kids bedrooms on left and clerestorey lighting above

Our attic!! (we haven't had an attic for 10 years...)

Wait... here comes the sun

Rain has stopped so the work can continue.
All of the bits are loaded onto the neighbouring raft as the trucks can't hang around. Now they just have to put them all together...

Some views from the scaffolding

Treated rafter ends

There is a christening being held across the road so there are cars and trucks everywhere, the Austrian lads are about a day and a half behind due to the weather, and now expect to have the building weathertight on Monday.

Bloody rain...

After our flying start, it has been raining on and off for 2 days and progress has slowed to a crawl.

We have managed to get the first floor units on so the ground floor is watertight (as long as the plastic sheets over the stairs and kitchen rooflight hold out)

The forecast today is for it to clear in the afternoon, so hopefully we can get moving again. One of the trucks arrived a day early yesterday, and seeing as the other two were still not unloaded due to the bad weather, pandemonium ensued. We now have trucks sequestered around Galway waiting for their turn.

If you see a bored looking Austrian sitting in a 40' artic near a roundabout or lay-by, give him a smile and maybe a cup of tea...
